1. Extension works on case study with the partner ESRF on improving market access in the coffee value chain
The CS extension with ESRF on coffee was implemented during the fall of 2024 in Tanzania to assess the role of NGO’s and food brokers and other intermediaries in improving market access for coffee farmers through building trust. To do so, a so-called ‘trust game’ and in-person survey was implemented with more than 300 farmers, brokers (traders) and NGO representatives, as well as local contacts from the Agricultural Ministries. The work confirmed that a greater civil society dialogue and novel data-sharing practices are important to reduce distrust between different members of the coffee value chain and thereby promote market access.

2. Extension works on biodiversity analysis with the subcontractor Luke
The analysis assessed country-level drivers of biodiversity loss while accounting for trade-proxies, through a cross-sectional and panel-based econometric analysis. The analysis focused on the relationship between biodiversity loss and economic and social variables (incl. trust and norms). Preliminary work is to be presented at forthcoming conferences, and blogs soon.
